Kara & Matt Richardson are the owners of Tilted Barn Brewery, Rhode Island's original farm brewery. Along with their amazing Barn Crew, they've been cranking out beer on their family farm since 2014 in Exeter, Rhode Island. It's been an incredible adventure for them and they're excited to share their passion with all of us!

THE ROOT OF IT ALL

In 2007 we founded Ocean State Hops, Rhode Island's first commercial hop farm, fueled by a passion to cram as many hops into each batch of beer as humanly possible and supply other brewers looking to quench their thirst for hops. Over the years we enjoyed supplying hops to local homebrewers and breweries alike. The venture cultivated the idea of opening our own brewery on the family farm.

OLD BARN DAYS

After a few experimental homebrew batches we felt it was time to convert our century old barn into what would come to be known as the original Tilted Barn. Once we were able to restore the main section of the Barn into our tasting room and turn the attached former horse stables into our production area, we had ourselves a beautiful spot to launch our very own brewery.

The motivation behind Tilted Barn Brewery has always been to keep Kara's family tradition of farming alive while adding our own modern twist for craft beer and the art of brewing. A trip to our farm brewery is beyond that of the normal brewery experience. Visitors to the brewery can get a firsthand look at what goes into each batch of our hand-crafted beer. You'll get to learn a little history of not only farming in our area but hop farming throughout all of New England (Matt could go on for hours about that...). Walking through the fields and looking over our tranquil farm, you’re able to enjoy the fruits of our labor. Our original Barn served us well and we’ll never forget the joy that it brought us, but it is now back to being a Barn on a farm. Our adventure has since taken us up the hill to a new and exciting chapter of our story, moving into our expansive 10,000 sq ft authentic, New England-style post and beam barn crafted for us by the incredible team at South County Post & Beam, right down the road.
